NEW YORK. Through the ideal collaboration of two particularly remarkable Greeks, of the new generation, who have achieved great success abroad, Alex Stavrakas, Founder of ERIS PRESS, one of the most remarkable international publishing houses based in London, and Dr. Sozita Goudouna, founder of the Cultural Non Profit “Greece in USA” which aims to promote Greek culture in the USA and founding director of the Opening Gallery, in New York, which connects Greek and global artists, in high-level two-way communication, we had the opportunity to attend the presentation of a rare book. “Orgasm”, as it is titled, was written by a man of noble origins, who revolutionized the world of business (Saatchi & Saatchi and M&C Saatchi.) and politics (Conservative Party — House of Lords), through his passion for challenging established perceptions.
In early May at the New York Public Library in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, the National Herald covered the celebration of the publication of Maurice Saatchi’s book “Orgasm” hosted by the author himself and Lord Maurice Saatchi and Lynn Forester, Lady de Rothschild, head of E.L. Rothschild and co-hosts a significant number of the world’s wealthiest businessmen, Darren Walker, chairman of the Ford Foundation, Leonard Lauder, billionaire and heir to The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., Ursula Burns, businesswoman and head of Barack Obama’s science and technology program, Eric Emerson Schmidt, businessman and former executive chairman of Google, Barry Stuart Sternlicht, billionaire and co-founder, chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group, Stephen Allen Schwarzman, billionaire businessman, chairman and CEO of the Blackstone Group, and Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Steve Jobs. and administrator of the Steve Jobs Trust.
Lynn Forester, Lady de Rothschild, who welcomed the guests, referred to the book, saying that Lord Saatchi offers readers an unforgettable psychic experience as he debunks some of the most cherished illusions of the modern world and bravely and dangerously brings together conflicting ideas. “A book by turns moving, witty and aggressive, at once global in scope and familiar in tone with a richly illustrated and hard-hitting deluxe cover.”
Darren Walker described the author’s personality as renaissance and prolific, an intellectual and patron of the arts, and addressed him, saying: “You have written this book for romantic, brilliant and intellectual people, and you have done it wonderfully, with depth, with originality and with a freshness that I find very exciting.”
Lord Saatchi himself, speaking last, stated that his book suggests that there is another kind of orgasm that has nothing to do with sex and is even more pleasurable: the orgasm of the mind: “You may be wondering, what is the orgasm of the mind? It is a revelation. The fog is lifting. The illusion disappears, the road ahead is straight, the destination is clear.” In his book, Saatchi presents 21 lies, reveals his own truth and lets the reader decide for himself: “You hear people say that cancer treatment is improving, but I say that cancer treatment is medieval, humiliating and ineffective. You have heard people say that Russia is bad. But I tell you, it was the biggest mistake in diplomatic history to throw Russia out of the G8 to create the G7. A humiliation that will last a generation.” Bill Clinton, who came accompanied by Hillary Clinton, attracted the spotlight and the interest of the select guests of Maurice Saatchi (Maurice Saatchi) to whom the highly aesthetic book was offered before the end of this rare evening. Guests included Don Lemon, Tina Brown, Letitia James, Brigitte Lacombe and the US ambassador to the UK, Jane Hartley.
Noteworthy, that the two prominent Greeks, Alex Stavrakas and Sozita Goudouna, collaborated to present exhibitions related to publications by Kenneth Goldsmith, Andres Serrano, ORLAN, Lucas Samaras and Maurice Saatchi among other renowned contributors and artists.
Alex Stavrakas studied Philosophy and Anthropology at LSE and UCL and is the founder and publisher of the publishing house ERIS, which has achieved great publishing successes with books of unparalleled aesthetics.
Dr. Sozita Goudouna is a NYC based professor and curator. She has had a distinguished 20-year career in the cultural sector and academia, serving in many executive roles at institutions in the public and private sector, principally in Europe, UK and New York, prior to becoming the founding director of “Greece in USA” and the Opening Gallery as a non profit cultural venue in Tribeca in New York. Over the course of her career, she joined Raymond Pettibon Studio in (2019–2022) as director, working closely with David Zwirner (NYC), Regen Projects (LA), and Sadie Coles (UK) and to curate a production for Performa Biennial at the New Museum. Her internationally exhibited projects include solo exhibitions by Arthur Jafa, FOR FREEDOMS, Sir John Akomfrah, Jake Chapman, Martin Creed, Lynda Benglis, Andres Serrano, Santiago Sierra, Karen Finley and Marina Abramovic and participations at Documenta 14, Onassis Foundation New York, French Consulate NYC, EMST Contemporary Art Museum, MET Metropolitan Museum of Art, Greek Festival of Athens and Epidaurus and Eleusis Cultural Capital of Europe. She has managed European Programs including the Creative Europe Program.
In 2022 she was the winner of the British Council Culture and Creativity UK Study Award. She is the author of “Beckett’s Breath: Anti-theatricality and the Visual Arts” published by Edinburgh Critical Studies in Modernism released in the US by Oxford University Press. According to William Hutchings’ review, Goudouna’s book is surely the most ever said about the least in the entire history of literary criticism. She holds a PhD in the Visual and Performing arts (University of London), and an MA in directing (King’s College /RADA: Royal Academy of Dramatic Art). She is visiting professor at Goldsmiths where she teaches the MA on Breath Studies: Breath in the Performing and Visual Arts. In 2015 she was selected by RoseLee Goldberg as the inaugural Andrew W. Mellon Curator at Performa Biennial and post-doctoral fellow at NYU. She also taught at CUNY as adjunct professor, the New School, SUNY, Roger Williams, University of the Peloponnese, Pace, Royal College of Art and NYU. She serves as member at Onassis Scholars’ Association and served as treasurer of the board of directors of AICA Hellas International Art Critics Association and as a member of the board of directors at ITI International Theatre Association UNESCO. ΑΜΕΡΙΚΗ: Το βιβλίο του Λόρδου Maurice Saatchi από την ERIS και το «Greece in USA»

ΝΕΑ ΥΟΡΚΗ. Μέσα από την ιδανική συνεργασία δύο ιδιαίτερα αξιόλογων Ελλήνων της νέας γενιάς που έχουν σημειώσει μεγάλες επιτυχίες στο εξωτερικό, του Αλεξ Σταύρακα, ιδιοκτήτη της ERIS, ενός από τους πλέον αξιόλογους διεθνώς εκδοτικούς οίκους με έδρα το Λονδίνο, και της Δρ Σωζήτας Γκουντούνα, ιδρύτριας της ΜΚΟ «Greece in USA» που στοχεύει στην προώθηση του ελληνικού πολιτισμού στις ΗΠΑ και δημιουργού της Opening Gallery, στη Νέα Υόρκη, που συνδέει Ελληνες καλλιτέχνες με ξένους, σε αμφίδρομη επικοινωνία υψηλού επιπέδου, είχαμε την ευκαιρία να βρεθούμε στην παρουσίαση ενός σπάνιου βιβλίου. Το «Orgasm», όπως είναι ο τίτλος του, γράφτηκε από έναν άνθρωπο με ευγενείς καταβολές, που έφερε επανάσταση στον κόσμο των επιχειρήσεων (Saatchi & Saatchi and M&C Saatchi.) και της πολιτικής (Συντηρητικό Κόμμα — Βουλή των Λόρδων), μέσω του πάθους του να αμφισβητεί τις κατεστημένες αντιλήψεις.
Στις αρχές Μαϊου στη Δημόσια βιβλιοθήκη της Νέας Υόρκης στο «Stephen A. Schwarzman Building», ο «Εθνικός Κήρυκας» κάλυψε τον εορτασμό της έκδοσης του βιβλίου του Maurice Saatchi (Μορίς Σαάτσι) «Orgasm» με οικοδεσπότες τον ίδιο τον συγγραφέα και Λόρδο Maurice Saatchi και την Lynn Forester, Lady de Rothschild (Λιν Φόρεστερ, λαίδη ντε Ρότσιλντ) επικεφαλής του E.L. Rothschild και συνοικοδεσπότες έναν σημαντικό αριθμό από τους πλουσιότερους επιχειρηματίες του κόσμου, τον Darren Walker (Ντάρεν Γουόκερ) πρόεδρο του Ιδρύματος Ford, τον Leonard Lauder (Λέοναρντ Λόντερ) δισεκατομμυριούχο και κληρονόμο της Τhe Estée Lauder Companies Inc., την Ursula Burns (Ούρσουλα Μπερνς) επιχειρηματία και υπεύθυνη του επιστημονικού και τεχνολογικού προγράμματος του Μπαράκ Ομπάμα, τον Eric Emerson Schmidt (Έρικ Εμερσον Σμιντ) επιχειρηματία και πρώην εκτελεστικό πρόεδρο της Google, τον Barry Stuart Sternlicht (Μπάρι Στέρνλιχτ) δισεκατομμυριούχο και συνιδρυτή πρόεδρο και διευθύνοντα σύμβουλο της Starwood Capital Group, τον Stephen Allen Schwarzman (Στίβεν Σβάρτσμαν) δισεκατομμυριούχο επιχειρηματία, πρόεδρο και διευθύνοντα σύμβουλο του Ομίλου Blackstone και την Laurene Powell Jobs (Λορίν Πάουελ Τζομπς), χήρα του Steve και διαχειρίστρια του Steve Jobs Trust.
Η Lynn Forester, Lady de Rothschild, η οποία και υποδέχτηκε τους καλεσμένους αναφέρθηκε στο βιβλίο λέγοντας, πως ο Λόρδος Saatchi προσφέρει στους αναγνώστες μια αξέχαστη ψυχική εμπειρία καθώς απομυθοποιεί μερικές από τις πιο τρυφερές αυταπάτες του σύγχρονου κόσμου και συγκεντρώνει γενναία και επικίνδυνα αντικρουόμενες ιδέες. «Ενα βιβλίο εκ περιτροπής συγκινητικό, πνευματώδες και επιθετικό, ταυτόχρονα παγκόσμιο σε εύρος και οικείο τόνο με μια πλούσια εικονογράφηση και σκληρό εντυπωσιακό πολυτελές εξώφυλλο».
Ο Ντάρεν Γουόκερ, περιέγραψε την προσωπικότητα του συγγραφέα ως αναγεννησιακή και πολυγραφότατη, έναν άνθρωπο διανοούμενο και προστάτη των τεχνών και απευθυνόμενος σ’ αυτόν είπε: «Γράψατε αυτό το βιβλίο για ανθρώπους ρομαντικούς, λαμπρούς και διανοούμενους και το κάνατε υπέροχα με βάθος, με πρωτοτυπία και με μια φρεσκάδα που θεωρώ πολύ συναρπαστική».
Ο ίδιος ο Λόρδος Saatchi μιλώντας τελευταίος δήλωσε πως το βιβλίο του υποδηλώνει ότι υπάρχει ένα άλλο είδος οργασμού που δεν έχει καμία σχέση με το σεξ και είναι ακόμη πιο ευχάριστο: ο οργασμός του μυαλού: «Ισως αναρωτιέστε, τι είναι ο οργασμός του μυαλού; Είναι μια αποκάλυψη. Η ομίχλη σηκώνεται. Η ψευδαίσθηση εξαφανίζεται, ο δρόμος μπροστά είναι ευθύς, ο προορισμός καθαρός». Ο Saatchi στο βιβλίο του παρουσιάζει 21 ψέματα, αποκαλύπτει την δική του αλήθεια και αφήνει τον αναγνώστη να αποφασίσει μόνος του: «Ακούτε να λένε ότι η θεραπεία του καρκίνου βελτιώνεται, αλλά λέω ότι η θεραπεία του καρκίνου είναι μεσαιωνική ταπεινωτική και αναποτελεσματική. Εχετε ακούσει να λένε ότι η Ρωσία είναι κακή. Αλλά σας λέω, ότι ήταν το μεγαλύτερο λάθος στη διπλωματική ιστορία να πετάξουν τη Ρωσία από το G8 για τη δημιουργία του G7. Μια ταπείνωση που θα κρατήσει μια γενιά».
Ο Μπιλ Κλίντον, o οποίος ήρθε συνοδευόμενος από την Χίλαρι Κλίντον, τράβηξε επάνω του τα φώτα και το ενδιαφέρον των εκλεκτών φίλων προσκεκλημένων του Maurice Saatchi (Μορίς Σαάτσι) στους οποίους προσεφέρθη το υψηλής αισθητικής βιβλίο πριν το τέλος της σπάνιας αυτής βραδιάς. Μεταξύ των προσκεκλημένων παρευρέθησαν ο Don Lemon (Ντον Λέμον), η Tina Brown (Τίνα Μπράουν), η Letitia James (Λετίσια Τζέιμς), η Brigitte Lacombe (Μπριζίτ Λακόμπ) και η πρέσβης των ΗΠΑ στη Μ. Βρετανία, Jane Hartley (Τζέιν Χάρτλεϊ).
Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι οι δυο επιφανείς Ελληνες, ο Αλεξ Σταύρακας και η Σωζήτα Γκουντούνα, συνεργάστηκαν για να παρουσιάσουν εκθέσεις που σχετίζονται με εκδόσεις των Kenneth Goldsmith, Andres Serrano, ORLAN, Lucas Samaras και Maurice Saatchi μεταξύ άλλων καταξιωμένων συντελεστών και καλλιτεχνών.
Ο Αλεξ Σταύρακας σπούδασε Φιλοσοφία και Ανθρωπολογία στο LSE και στο UCL και είναι ιδρυτής και εκδότης του εκδοτικού Οίκου ERIS που έχει σημειώσει πολύ μεγάλες εκδοτικές επιτυχίες με βιβλία απαράμιλλης αισθητικής.
Η Δρ Σωζήτα Γκουντούνα είναι καθηγήτρια, επιμελήτρια και ιδρύτρια του μη κερδοσκοπικού οργανισμού της Νέας Υόρκης «Η Ελλάδα στις ΗΠΑ» για την προώθηση της Σύγχρονης Ελληνικής Τέχνης στη Νέα Υόρκη υπό την αιγίδα του ΥΠΠΟΤ. Το 2022 ήταν η νικήτρια του Βραβείου του Βρετανικού Συμβουλίου Πολιτισμού και Δημιουργικότητας. Κατά τη διάρκεια μιας 20χρονης καριέρας, εντάχθηκε στο Raymond Pettibon Studio το 2019 ως επικεφαλής συνεργαζόμενη στενά με τους David Zwirner γκαλερί NY, Regen Projects LA, Sadie Coles London και για να επιμεληθεί παραγωγή για την Performa Biennial στο New Museum. Είναι επισκέπτρια καθηγήτρια στο Goldsmiths και δίδαξε ως επίκουρη καθηγήτρια, στο NYU, New School, SUNY, και στο τμήμα Αρχιτεκτονικής Roger Williams. Είναι η συγγραφέας της πρώτης μονογραφίας για το κείμενο «Η αναπνοή του Μπέκετ» («Beckett’s Breath»).
